Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 October 2026
Lettrs is an app for writing letters to people you know. This policy explains what it collects, why, and what happens to it. It describes the app as it works today.
Lettrs is operated by 15368669 Canada Inc.. You can reach us at support@getlettrs.app.
What we collect
Your phone number
We do not ask for your phone number and we do not store one. Nothing in the app requires it.
If you choose to send an invitation by text message or WhatsApp, the app opens that app with the message ready to send. Choosing who to send it to happens there, not here — we never see the number.
Your email address, if you use one
When you sign in with Apple, we store your account identifier and the email address Apple provides, which may be a private relay address. We also store the display name and username you choose.
Your email address is never shown to other users.
Your username
Your username is public. It appears on every letter you send, in the recipient's inbox, and to people choosing who to write to.
Your profile photo, if you add one
Optional. If you add one, it is shown beside your username to people you have written to or received letters from.
The letters you write
A letter is stored as an image of the finished page — the paper, your handwriting, drawings and any photographs you placed on it — together with a voice note if you recorded one. We also store who it is from, who it is for, when it was sent, and whether it has been opened.
Letters are stored so they can be delivered and re-read. They are not end-to-end encrypted. They are encrypted in transit and at rest by our hosting provider, and access is restricted by server-side rules, but we could in principle access them.
Safety reports
If a letter is reported, an authorized reviewer may access its content to investigate abuse. Reviewer access is restricted and logged. We store reports, decisions and sending restrictions for safety.
Notification tokens
If you allow notifications, we store the token Apple gives us so we can tell you a letter has arrived.
Connections and activity
We store who exchanges letters with whom to deliver letters, maintain shared streaks and provide shared Plus access. We also store letter-open status, streak progress, saved-letter status and notification/device identifiers to operate these features. This is an in-app connection history; it is not access to your phone’s address book.
Minimal account-deletion and username-reservation records may remain to prevent deleted accounts from being restored or impersonated.
Contacts
Lettrs does not read your address book.
When you send an invitation by text message or WhatsApp, we hand the invitation to that app and it asks you who to send it to. That happens inside their app, not ours. The app has no permission to read your contacts and never asks for one.
If we have a name for a pending invitation, it is stored only on your device so you can tell your unsent invitations apart. It is never uploaded.
We do not send the invitation. We open your Messages app with the text prepared, and you send it yourself, from your number.
Crash and error diagnostics
We use Firebase Crashlytics to detect crashes, app hangs and technical failures. Reports contain app and operating-system versions, device information, diagnostic installation identifiers, stack traces and fixed operation names or error codes. We do not attach account identifiers, letter content, photos, voice notes or private media URLs. Diagnostic reports are used to fix bugs, not for advertising or tracking. If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to include.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share your information with anyone for advertising.
- We do not track you across apps or websites or use your information for advertising.
- We do not build a profile of you or track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not read your address book.
Who else handles your data
Google Firebase hosts Lettrs — accounts, letters, images, notifications and our server code. Google processes this data on our behalf as our service provider. Apple handles Sign in with Apple, subscription purchases and push notification delivery.
Apple delivers push notifications to your device.
We store subscription status and transaction identifiers to provide and verify Plus access. We do not receive your payment card details.
Where your data lives on your device
Some things are kept on your phone and never uploaded: your unfinished drafts, letters still being sent, the names you have for pending invitations, and a cache of profile pictures. Drafts and unsent letters belong to the account that made them; signing in as someone else on the same phone does not show them.
How long we keep things
Letters are kept until deleted. A letter you have sent belongs to the person who received it and stays with them.
An invitation waits to be claimed by whoever opens its link. If you cancel it, it is not delivered.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from the profile screen inside the app.
When you do, we permanently delete:
- your account and sign-in details
- your username and email address
- your profile photo and notification tokens
- letters and attachments that are not part of another person’s delivered conversation
- your drafts and any unsent letters on that device
We also cancel any invitation you sent that nobody had claimed.
Two things survive, deliberately:
Letters you exchanged stay in the other person’s history. They can still read and save them, but cannot send new letters to your deleted account.
Your username is retired, not released. Nobody else can ever take it. Old letters carry the name of whoever wrote them, and letting a new person adopt your name would make your letters appear to be theirs.
Deletion cannot be undone. If you sign up again, nothing is restored.
Children
Lettrs is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us at support@getlettrs.app and we will delete it.
Your rights
You can see your username and photo in the app, change your photo at any time, and delete your account and its data yourself.
For anything else — a copy of your data, a correction, or a question about this policy — write to support@getlettrs.app.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be told to you in the app.
